CERAMICS CRITICISM CHALLENGE

This link to Critical Discussion and Resources for Criticism has been created to provide a forum for the discussion and development of criticism in contemporary ceramics.

Artist: Lorna Meaden Punch Bowl 10x13x13" Porcelain,Soda-Fired, 2008

Recognizing the insights those accurate and comprehensible methods of analysis, interpretation and communication can contribute to the creation and appreciation of contemporary ceramics, as well as the historic necessity to establish an intellectually sound critical framework, NCECA has created this site to stimulate dialogue and provide a resource library focused on criticism.

For this challenge we have selected an artwork by studio ceramist, Lorna Meaden. We've seen her work a lot lately, whether as a demonstrator at the Pittsburgh NCECA Conference, in shows, or in publications. We challenge you to write a critique, 500 words or less, of the piece shown above. Every submission will be posted, in full, on NCECA’s website, and three will be chosen for publication in the Spring issue of the Newsletter. Send your critique as an attached Word document, March 12, to: critclay@nceca.net, or mail to NCECA CritClay, 77 Erie Village Sq., Suite 280, Erie, CO 80516-6996.
