THE REGINA BROWN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIP
NCECA’s Regina Brown Undergraduate Student Fellowship Awards are presented at the Second Members’ Business Meeting of NCECA’s annual conference. This award is open to full-time undergraduate students matriculating in a degree program at an accredited college, university or art institute in the U.S. who hold active NCECA Memberships at the time of the application deadline. The student must have attained the classification of a junior year or more advanced undergraduate level in order to apply. The purpose of the award is to enable promising undergraduate students to have experiences and conduct research beyond the scope of their academic programs. Projects generally take place in the summer of the year in which the awards are made.
Applications are to be supported by two (2) letters of recommendation: one (1) from a current instructor and one (1) from another instructor or professional working in the fields of ceramic art production, criticism, education, research or exhibitions. The student must make a project proposal for use of the $1,800.00 award. The award may not be used to make payments toward tuition at the student’s academic institution and the proposal must indicate how the award will be used to further his/her inquiry beyond the conventional scope of the degree program. The applicant must submit additional materials as specified in the Application Details.
Selected students will be encouraged to attend the Annual Conference in order to receive their awards before those in attendance. The award will include a complimentary conference registration in order to facilitate participation at the event. A maximum of three awards may be made annually, of which $1,300.00 is released and sent to awardees following the conference. The balance of $500.00 is paid following the submission of a project report including text and images to NCECA’s office. Reports will be published in NCECA’s Annual Journal and/ or on the website or blog as space and time allow.
The selection committee includes the Past President (chair), one Student Director at Large and a third ceramist of national stature appointed by NCECA’s President. Proposals will be selected based on the creativity of the project, the impact the award will have on the student's work and development, the quality of work presented, and the nature of the recommendation letters.
The annual submission of proposals opens in early September and closes in late January of the academic year in which the award is made.
