1000 Years Celebration of
Porcelain
Jingdezhen: 1000 Years Celebration of Porcelain
is a festival planned for May – October 2004 in Jingdezhen,
China. To honor the traditions and celebrate the continuing creation
of the world-renowned
porcelain for which Jingdezhen is internationally famous, the festival
will feature international workshops and public sculpture projects,
a ceramics conference May 25-31, commemorative wood firings, cultural
performances of dance and music, an international ceramic film
festival, and exhibitions and museum official openings.
NCECA has been invited to take part in the celebration by sending
an exhibition of student work to be shown in conjunction with an
exhibition of work by Chinese students. This national student exhibition
is open to all NCECA 2003-04 student members and will be juried
from slides. Each student member may submit up to two works, with
up to two slides per entry. There is no fee to enter works. The
Jingdezhen: 1000 Years Celebration of Porcelain organization will
award three residencies in San Bao, China to students selected
by the jurors based on the quality of their work entered for the
exhibition.
Special tours are being arranged to facilitate travel to China
to participate in the festival. Students may apply for a $1,500
scholarship toward the cost of participating in a three-week travel
and study experience in China. The deadline for application is
March 15, 2004. Information on the festival and on the scholarship

Jurying
NCECA Past President Steve Reynolds, Exhibitions Director Michel
Conroy and former Student Director at Large, Kim May, will jury
the entries. The jurors will select up to fifty pieces for the
exhibition. Jurying will be conducted from slides of actual works
available for the exhibition. No substitutions will be allowed.
