The 'Cup Sale'

Past Cups of Merit
Click here to access a list of Past Cups of Merit Awardees.

NCECA holds an annual cup sale at each conference to support the NCECA Fund for Artist Development designed to provide opportunities for artistic growth through scholarships, residencies and programs including the Regina Brown Undergraduate Fellowships. Each year there is an impressive collection of cups donated by hundreds of artists and people line up at the door for a chance to choose from their work. The cups range from those created for this special occasion by well known artists which can become true collectors’ pieces, to beautifully crafted work by professional potters, and always includes some very unique pieces by students who are officially making their "first sale” to help with the cause. All of the cups are considered for the "Cups of Merit" awards and some pieces are selected for the NCECA collection.

All NCECA members are invited to donate a cup to help the worthy cause of the Fund for Artist Development. The Fund for Artist Development will support selected students in buying equipment, attending symposia/workshops/conferences, and traveling both nationally and abroad to research their interests in ceramics. All undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for the Regina Brown Undergraduate Student Fellowship and all graduate students are encouraged to apply for the NCECA Graduate Student Fellowship. Proposals are due in November and application information is published is available on the NCECA website.

So remember to bring your cup, and remind your friends, students, and teachers to bring their cups too. Undergraduate and graduate students are the future of our ceramic universe and this is a wonderful way to support them!
