An
Exposition by premier galleries celebrating innovation and artistic
creation
NCECA, over its 40 year history, has
become a vibrant force in advancing and developing the field of ceramic
arts. Serving a growing membership of artists, educators, students,
professionals and collectors, the Council strives to Ôstimulate and
promote ceramic art through education, research and creative practiceÕ.
NCECAÕs programming has evolved with the growing success of our annual
conference, which is respected world wide as a leading event for those
in the field. As programs and related events have developed, our mission
continues to revolve around the enrichment and creative energy that
is shared through a collective passion for ceramic art.
The development and pursuit of the
highest standards in all that NCECA does is a guiding force for our
organization. The SOFA / NCECA Gallery Exposition proudly presents
some of the best art to be found anywhere in the world today. Through
generous support and combined efforts with Expressions of Culture,
Inc., the Gallery presentations are of the same high quality and design
as seen at SOFA / Chicago and SOFA / NY. The four galleries, Ferrin
Gallery, Sherrie Gallery, Duane Reed Gallery and John Natsoulas Gallery
have joined in NCECAÕs commitment to education, celebrating quality
and nurturing creativity. In bringing forth this exposition of contemporary
art by top-tier galleries at the conference, the membership gains an
opportunity to see and purchase art, talk to representatives from the
galleries, and have an enhanced experience while attending and participating
in the conference.
Presented within the context of dynamic
and provocative programming, the SOFA / NCECA Gallery Exposition
offers a forum for discussion among professionals, artists, and collectors
and a visual experience to guide and challenge students. NCECA is
proud to introduce this new perspective for the membership and the
community and welcomes a new audience of art makers and art lovers
who will join in the conference for the first time. The spirit of learning
is a lifelong quest. The dynamic energy that is shared by artists
and the ceramic community is unique. Join NCECA and
share the passion.
Jim Melchert, the then Director
of Visual Arts in the NEA, gave the conferenceÕs Keynote in 1978. His
words still speak eloquently to all
"... about the creative imagination.
I regard it as a power-source that helps you transcend the limitations
of where you think you are. ... Imagination is what converts problems
into opportunities and dead ends into new beginnings... it is having
confidence and respect for what it produces. ItÕs the one resource
of energy that we canÕt deplete. It seems that the more we use it,
the more there is of it to use."
