Rhythm & Gesture: A Functional Pottery Workshop with artists
Steven Hill and Matt Long
March 10-11. Register now as spaces are filling quickly! Laguna
Clay and Kentucky Mudworks, LLC are co-hosting an exciting workshop
held at the beautiful Buffalo Trace Distillery log cabin clubhouse.
Check out details at: www.lagunaclay.com/rhythm-and-gesture.html.
Steven Hill and Matt Long share a common aspiration: to make pots
that capture the moment when soft clay and fluid slip coalesce
with clarity of purpose as a functional pot. They use very soft
clay or slip to place fresh and untouched lines on the surface,
all the while allowing the gestural line to pull the viewer around
the pot, identifying form and function to the user. Matt’s soda fired whiskey jugs
and Steven’s reduction fired melon pitchers epitomize their
approach to preserving that wet, sensual quality that is so inherent
in the process of throwing, altering, and decorating wet pots. This
commonality in Steven and Matt’s work is what brings them
together for this exciting workshop. $195. Saturday, March 10,
9:00a.m.-5:30p.m.; Sunday, March 11, 9:00a.m.-4:30p.m. Free distillery
tours on Saturday. Continental breakfast provided both days. One-hour
lunch break with optional $11 brown bag meal.
